Artspace Scranton

Spearheaded by Scranton Tomorrow, the Artspace Scranton project is currently underway to transform a portion of the historic Scranton Laceworks Building into 35 affordable live-work units designed to meet the space needs of creative individuals and their families.

In 2005, Artspace Projects Inc., the nation's leading non-profit developer of affordable space for artists and arts organizations, announced that the City of Scranton was chosen as a site for development. As such, Scranton Tomorrow and Artspace Projects, Inc, formally entered into a pre-development agreement to create affordable space for artists to live, work, perform, and conduct business while creating a sustained economic impact for the City of Scranton.

Data compiled from the Feasibility and Market Study strongly supports the project, confirming the requisite infrastructure as well as the desire and interest of artists to live in and relocate to Scranton. Economically, the plan will provide approximately 30 live/work units and a common space dedicated to artists' work.

Scranton Tomorrow is anticipating an economic impact of $8 returned for every $1 dollar invested. A steering committee comprised of local artists, residents, and business leaders has been formed to guide, manage and administer the project.
