MAY
30, 2006 - MTV
has filmed here. The Weather Channel blew through to film. Even
Paramount Pictures used this location as a backdrop.
No, we’re not talking about
Hollywood. In the first six months of its existence, the Greater
Scranton Film Office has brought more than 20 film production
companies into Northeastern Pennsylvania, translating into a more than
$300,000 economic impact for the region, or the equivalent of five
average full-time salaries.
Northeastern Pennsylvania is no
stranger to working hard to attract industry to the area. However, the
Film Office is attracting an industry previously untapped by economic
leaders: the entertainment industry.
“Many people see the entertainment
industry as all glitz and glamour,” said Paige Balitski, Film Office
Director. “However, at the Film Office, we see it as creating a
viable economic engine for Northeastern Pennsylvania.
The Film Office, whose clients to date
have included MTV, A&E Entertainment, Paramount, and NBC’s hit
show “The Office,” has brought dollars into Luzerne, Lackawanna,
Wayne and Wyoming counties, just to name a few.
The
recently released Milken Institute report ranked the
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre metropolitan area 129th out of 200
metro areas across the country in terms of rising job and salary
growth. Much progress has been made, and the economic impact of Film
Office productions seeks to further this progress even more.
