Attention
punk rockers! “Kickball! The Movie” is set to begin production in
Scranton this summer. Pre-production has already begun on the film,
and it will be released in Spring 2007.
This new film by Scranton native Blake
Monahan is to be an homage to the sports underdog/comedy films of the
1980’s with a punk rock flair. Take one part “Porky’s,” one
part “Slapshot,” and add a dash of “SLC Punk” and you get
“Kickball! The Movie.”
The
film will be written, produced, and directed by Blake Monahan and
Jeremy Howell, both employees of Troma Entertainment in New York City.
It will be executive produced by Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz,
founders of Troma Entertainment and creators of “The Toxic
Avenger.”
The
film will be shot entirely in Scranton, in conjunction with the
Greater Scranton Film Office, a project of Scranton Tomorrow, and
Community Film Project. Every attempt will be made to hire as many
local cast and crew members as possible.
“Kickball!
The Movie” is to be the first of many film projects Mr. Monahan will
be lensing in the area. Stay tuned for casting information!
