6 Days. 1,095 meals. Unlimited gratitude!

On Friday, March 20, we asked for the community’s support as we launched the Electric City Connection, a project developed by The University of Scranton in partnership with Scranton Tomorrow and Friends of the Poor. The program raises funds to supply restaurant gift cards to Scranton residents in need during this uncertain time.

As of March 25, we were able to provide 1,095 restaurant gift cards to our neighbors who need it most.

"The outpouring of community support has been wonderful. Patronizing our local restaurants and providing fresh meals for those in need is a win-win at a time when all of us are searching for ways to help."

Sr. Ann Walsh, IHM, Assistant Director of Friends of the Poor, said the need in Scranton is great.

“The program has helped address an acute need for fresh food during this difficult crisis that has resulted in mounting economic pressures. We are so grateful to be able to provide these gift cards to hundreds of families and older adults."

A heartfelt thank you...

... to our partners for identifying a need in the community and mobilizing within 48 hours to get this program up and running.

... to the local restaurant owners who said “yes” in the spirit of goodwill for the community before they even understood the details of the evolving program.

... to our media friends who produced stories in record time to help us spread the word about the program.

... to every individual who made a donation and shared our social media posts.

This outpouring of generosity and support reflects the true heart of our City — one that is resilient and strong, benevolent and kind.

“Scranton Tomorrow is proud to be part of this economic development and community outreach initiative. We will continue to work with our partners and community leaders in support of the Downtown Scranton Business District, and those who live and work in Scranton.”

-- Leslie Collins

Executive Director

Scranton Tomorrow

We will continue to run the program as long as there is a need and funding continues, and as long as participating restaurants provide delivery and take-out services.
