The installation of a mural paying homage to the hit NBC comedy The Office (2005-2013) is under way in the Downtown Scranton Business District, giving Dunderheads yet another reason to visit Scranton, Pennsylvania. The project is part of an ongoing series of public art works developed by Scranton Tomorrow, a non-profit economic development organization, and members of its Mural Arts Committee.

Located on the back of a historic building at 503 Lackawanna Avenue, The Office: The Story of Us mural by Kala Hagopian will be complete by fall 2023. Hagopian is a fine arts muralist and the founder of Hagopian Arts in Philadelphia. Featuring highly-rendered, realistic black-and-white portraits of 17 cast members, famous quotes from the show, local landmarks referenced in the series, and colorful geometric shapes, the finished piece will be 86 feet wide by 27 feet tall. The mural is created through a process designed to ensure its longevity with months of in-studio painting on sections of parachute cloth prior to installation. A formal dedication ceremony and meet and greet with the artist is planned for October 6.

The Office is one of the city’s most popular tourist attractions. Fans regularly enjoy self-guided tours developed by the Lackawanna County Visitors Bureau, exploring restaurants, businesses, and landmarks referenced in the show. Scranton Tomorrow leaders expect the mural to enhance tourism efforts and bolster the local economy by adding a visit to The Office: The Story of Us to their itinerary.

This project is made possible with support from Peacock and premier sponsor Lackawanna County Visitors Bureau. Additional community-minded sponsors include Community Bank, N.A., Cooper’s Seafood House, and The Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce.
