New Vendor @ Electric City Farmers Market, Tuesdays in downtown Scranton

Just a few weeks after its grand opening, the Electric City Farmers Market in downtown Scranton is expanding!

Starting Tuesday, Sept. 1, Miller's Orchards will offer pasture-grazed chicken, pork, eggs and grass-fed beef, seasonal fruits and homemade meals, including pot pies, quiche, soups and more.

A project of Scranton Tomorrow supported by the Architectural Heritage Association (AHA), the Electric City Farmers Market is open on Tuesdays from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Christopher A. Doherty Park on the corner of Linden St. and Wyoming Ave., Scranton. The market features farm fresh food with live music from noon to 2 p.m.

In addition to products from Miller’s Orchards, shoppers can buy fresh produce from  Hopkins Farm, baked goods from Cypress House @ St. Luke's Church, and plants from Pierro Plant and Garden Center.

The Electric City Farmers Market opened in July as a way for downtown residents, restaurateurs and members of the business community to access locally grown produce and fresh baked goods within walking distance. Local chefs now have the opportunity to enhance their farm-to-table menu options and downtown neighbors enjoy shopping on their lunch breaks in a beautiful outdoor setting.

“We identified a need for access to fresh, local food and the response has been outstanding,” said Liz Baldi, business development director, Scranton Tomorrow. “The market is busy every week and we quickly gained regular customers, many of whom are people who work in the business district.”

Doherty Park, also known as the pocket park, is an ideal location for the market because it’s a short walk from downtown homes and businesses.

Shoppers will also notice some farm fresh merchandise for sale at the market. Tee shirts and tote bags featuring the Electric City Famers Market logo will be available for purchase at the market, while supplies last. Tee shirts are $15 and tote bags are $8.
