There's a new sweet (and savory) reason to support local while "hunting" for unique basket fillers and host gifts. Scranton Tomorrow's Hop Around Downtown will be held Sat., March 28, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at more than 30 participating businesses in downtown Scranton. This year, restaurants and cafés will join retailers to offer menu and drink specials, and shoppers will enjoy a Golden Egg Hunt in select businesses. Spring clothing lines and accessories, basket goodies, themed menus and seasonal specials are incentives for everyone in the community to make a day of it while supporting local.

Downtown Scranton offers a unique mix of locally owned boutiques, bookstores, salons and spas, restaurants, pubs and cafés. The Hop Around Downtown is an ideal time to visit longtime favorites, explore new businesses and feel good about contributing to the local economy. According to the American Independent Business Association (AMIBA), about $50 to $68 of every $100 spent at an independently owned business stays within the community that business serves. By comparison, $13 to $43 of every $100 spent at national chains stays within the local community.
