Reducing landfill waste one coffee pod at a time

Updated: May 31

Scranton Tomorrow’s single-use coffee pod recycling program launched in 2022. To date, the program has collected 50,000 used pods (K-cups) to process for recycling!

Although many of the components of the pods are recyclable, single-use coffee pods are not recycled in Lackawanna County. Prior to recycling, the pods must be fully deconstructed, which makes the process impractical for the Lackawanna County Recycling Center. Scranton Tomorrow’s program collects used pods and sends them to a facility where they are deconstructed and recycled.

Bring your used pods to First Friday

As part of Scranton City Pride, used pods will be collected at Scranton Tomorrow’s office, 307 Linden Street, Downtown Scranton, at First Friday in June, from 5 to 9 p.m.
